What is a debit card?
A debit card, such as the Visa debit card, is a bank card. It is linked directly to the cardholder's current account. Unlike a credit card, the cardholder can make payments directly from their account without taking out a loan. This type of debit card is accepted worldwide and offers a convenient and secure way to make purchases and withdraw money.
The main difference between a debit card and a credit card lies in the processing of payments. With a debit card, payments are debited immediately from your current account. With a credit card, payments are made on a credit basis and repaid at a later date.
Many consumers confuse a debit card with a credit card. It may resemble a credit card on the outside, with a number divided into four blocks of four digits each. The number is often embossed instead of printed. The card can also bear a credit card number, a security code (Card Validation Code or CVC) and a validity date. The expiry date is not only indicated with a year, but also with a month. Apart from this, debit cards also bear the logos of credit card companies and allow customers to pay online. Despite these similarities, however, they are not actual credit cards.
